Launched to serve mid-career artists, Studios Inc is Kansas City’s only nonprofit arts organization offering pivotal three-year residencies to mid-career artists who are poised to significantly expand their careers. Studios Inc offers a unique immersion experience for resident artists, who use their studio and exhibition space to produce and exhibit work, network and learn from one another, and attract and cultivate relationships with art patrons, collectors, and arts professionals.

Opening Reception: Genevieve Casey, “Seeking Connection”

What is my work about?
The short answer:
Seeking a common theme in my work, I realized there are two main themes. One has always been allowing the camera to teach me mindfulness. The other is searching for relationship and connection.
For those who like the full story:
Our melting-pot ancestry goes back many generations in the US. As a result, I didn’t grow up with a sense of cultural identity beyond the mainstream, which didn’t suit. I admired the richness of culture and belonging I observed in friends with more recent ties to another place. In time, I realized I could choose some piece of my ancestral background as the focus of my quest for culture. Although I do not play an instrument, when I found the KC Traditional Irish Music community at Prospero’s, it felt like home. I have called it church. Naturally I also visited the Gaelic homelands.
As an adult with neither church nor child to bind me, when I found a community I felt its vitality to my well-being. The Arts, The KC Trad Irish Music Community, and my workplace are spaces where I’ve found those connections beyond my small but close family.

During the weekend of September 13th-15th, 2024, Brush Creek Art Walk celebrated it’s 13th Anniversary with a 3‑day weekend of Outdoor Painting. 40 pre-registered artists participated. Some of the resulting 80 original painting submissions are currently on display at our office/gallery at 1608 Locust in the Crossroads during the month of December. Join us Friday, December 6, 2024, from 5 – 8pm to view, meet the artists and maybe even purchase one for your collection. Stouterdays — Dark Beer Festival at Casual Animal

Tap into your wild side at Casual Animal Brewing Company where local beer, plants, and art intersect! Our taproom brims with floor to ceiling greenhouse vibes and graphic design. Enjoy a pint or flight of our 11 rotating taps, including our Local Motive beer where $2 of every pint is donated to a different KC non-profit every two months. This month, every pint of the Local Motive Fruited Sour benefits Zen Donkey Experience.

THIS WEEKEND join us for STOUTERDAYS, a dark beer tap takeover in our Original Taproom! This dark beer festival will feature 11 dark beers from local, Kansas City microbreweries. Don’t miss our special beer/candy pairings in curated flights. This is as much a celebration of dark beer season as it is about celebrating our beer community, and rekindling those warm and fuzzy feelings from the days in our Original Taproom at 1725 McGee Street.

Participating breweries include: Alma Mader, Big Rip, Border, Casual Animal, Cinder Block, City Barrel, River Bluff, Strange Days, Stockyards, Torn Label, and Vine Street.

Beer + Candy Flight pairings served all day

6 pm : Free Tarot Readings: Lady MOG will offer three-card spreads to explore what lies in the darkness. Monetary donations appreciated.
