The Travel Show — Watercolors by Jim Hamil — Sept 5th — First Friday

August 6, 2025 By Leda.Gipson@lexitaslegal.com

Lexitas Gallery will feature The Travel Show for First Friday on September 5th at 1608 Locust Street from 5 pm to 8 pm. Drinks and appetizers served. Free parking.

The late Jim Hamil captured the world as he moved through it — quietly, skillfully, and with a palette that never shouted. The Travel Show features a selection of his original works, created between the mid-60s and 2008, centered around a rediscovered sketchbook from a 1966 painting trip through Europe. Here is a link to all of the works: Art for Sale | Original Watercolor Art | Prints for Sale | Art Show | J R Hamil

The Travel Show is not a chronological exhibition — it’s a painter’s map. One built not just on destinations, but on the act of observing closely and translating what he saw into color, light, and form. For collectors who appreciate strong composition, atmospheric tone, and the handmade mark, this is a rare chance to own part of Jim Hamil’s legacy. Presented by his son, Alex Hamil, who will be in attendance to discuss all of the featured works in the gallery.

Keeper of Memories: A Celebration of Works by Gerry Trilling

August 6, 2025 By casey@thestudiosinc.org

Keeper of Memories: A Celebration of Works by Gerry Trilling is our current exhibition in collaboration with her husband, Howard Trilling, to remember and celebrate Gerry Trilling’s life throughout her career and work as an artist.

Gerry Trilling was a conceptual artist who presented a personal recounting of the history and assimilation of the American Jewish Diaspora in exquisite deadpan. Her parents escaped the Holocaust, relocating to St. Louis where she grew up in a community of immigrants viewing identity, assimilation and belonging as linked to home environments and material culture.

While Trilling used a variety of fabrics to mark the passage of time, she was not nostalgic. She embraced our contemporary material culture, itself omnivorous in the extreme. Nothing was off limits in her unsentimental investigation of the passage from greenhorn to assimilation. Materials, patterns, and certain numerical codes were her conceptual signifiers. Her work insists that you, the viewer, reach into your own personal place of memory and association. Trilling’s work is featured in the collections of the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art, Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art, and Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Gerry Trilling was an Alumni of the Studios Inc. artist residency program from 2015 to 2017.

Studios Inc will be hosting First Friday September 5th from 5 – 8 pm. All are encouraged to come and celebrate Gerry Trilling, and welcome to bring photos to add to a wall of memories for her. The exhibition will be open from August 1st, to September 26th.

Gallery hours are Wednesdays through Friday 10 am to 4 pm, and Saturdays 12 pm to 4 pm.

July 31, 2025 By sbrewer@artskc.org

First Friday opening reception for artist, Katheryn Krouse, a full time artist in Kansas City who takes pride in communicating how she sees the world through the lens of low vision. Krouse is visually impaired with a rare form of macula degeneration known as Stargardt’s Disease. Krouse communicates this in her work with thick impasto texture, and vibrant color palettes. Audiences are encouraged to touch and feel the tactile nature of these large scale paintings. Meet the artist, a proud new mom, and her little masterpiece, at First Fridays August 1st at the Arts KC Gallery.
