WHAT’S NEW AT TSE?

We have recently installed a new home theater featuring Sonus faber’s highest performance Palladio Level 6 in-wall speakers in our Kansas City Showroom. The sound is quite amazing, especially for in-wall speakers. These are not your typical in-wall speakers, they are robustly built including a true three-way design utilizing high-end speaker drivers in a back-boxed speaker cabinet for controlled performance.

New Works — John Marak

A Kansas City native, John Marak uses his background in painting, ceramics and graphic design to create aesthetic objects that look unearthed and already in the middle of processes of change. He is inspired by how nature over time transforms surfaces, colors, and forms.

In Marak‘s newest work, he continues to use materials, textures and forms drawn from the urban landscape, combining these with ethereal colors.

“Through a process of exploration and experimentation, I continue to discover new possibilities in raw industrial materials in the creation of my process-based abstract work. I use metal, plaster, cement and industrial glue in my sculptural paintings. I’m inspired by how nature over time transforms surfaces, colors and forms, creating a sense of history and the passing of time. My aesthetic is influenced by Wabi-sabi, a Japanese world view centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of beauty that is “imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete”. Wabi connotes rustic simplicity, freshness or quietness. it can also refer to quirks and anomalies arising from the process of construction, which add uniqueness and elegance to the object. Sabi is beauty or serenity that comes with age, when the life of the object and its impermanence are evidenced in its patina and wear. – Marak

Craving The Muse, September First Friday art opening

Teresa Magel’s work are not only definitions of what Femininity is but also a dialogue of what internal femininity looks like. The aesthetic beauty is visible because of how Teresa chooses to see the world. True feminine beauty is visible only because it is a reflection of all aspects of what she believes the essence of being female is. ” It is being beautiful outwardly because your soul is truly beautiful. It is displaying strength and persevering amidst vulnerability. It is defining and loving yourself un-apologetically. Its loving yourself unconditionally so that you may be love to others, Beauty.”
Teresa’s figures are often identifiable by their large coiffures of hair and their dreamlike eyes, lending them a sense of serenity and ardor. Teresa will also integrate elements of nature to elicit a feeling of passion and showing grace, such as butterflies, bees, dragonflies and hummingbirds.

First Friday at Torn Label

First Friday returns to the Crossroads this week, and our kitchen will be open until 9:45 for the occasion! You can start your Crossroads art crawl with Torn Label and our neighbors down the hall, Studios Inc, whose gallery currently features work by resident artist Benjamin Rosenthal. Rosenthal’s solo exhibition entitled and the band played on, and on on showcases both retrospective and new works in a variety of media each playing with the stability of the body and queer identity.

Opening Reception: “Summer’s End”

Join us this first Friday, September 3rd for the Opening reception of “Summer’s End”. This exhibition is a collaboration between Aaron Scarbrough and Hubbard Savage. Each artist taking a gallery for themselves. Madeline Brice’s exhibition, “Okay, Okay; and other lies we tell ourselves will also be viewable for one more month, as well.
Masks are required and beverages will be served.
