    REFLECTIONS ON PAINTING

I’ve been fascinated by the tradition of oil painting for quite some time. It’s amazing how masters of the past were able to conjure a world with nothing more than brush and canvas. Seeing their work feels like the discovery of a moment frozen in time.

At a certain point I decided to learn the craft. I spent countless hours in museums and many late nights with dusty books to try to glean some knowledge. I took a few workshops and tried to understand how other painters worked. Slowly but surely things started to click and I caught the bug.

I find special significance in creating portraits. Many of the sitters in my paintings are friends and family members. It’s a rewarding challenge to capture their unique personalities. Often I invent backgrounds, change colors and alter the lighting to suit a particular mood.

In the process I hope to learn as much as possible about the craft and carry on the tradition of painters who inspired me to pick up the brush.

If you’re interested in more information, please contact me with any questions you may have. I’ll try to get back to you in a timely manner.
