Founded in 1982, the Kansas City Symphony has rocketed to become one of the top 25 orchestras in the United States. During our 42-week season, we perform a huge range of classical, pops, film, education, chamber music, and special concerts in the superb acoustics of Helzberg Hall. In addition, we serve as the orchestra for both the Kansas City Ballet and Lyric Opera of Kansas City. Michael Stern is finishing his momentous 19-year tenure as music director and we welcome renowned maestro Matthias Pintscher as his successor beginning with the 2024/25 season.
Your world-class Symphony includes 80 full-time musicians from all over the globe who call Kansas City home. Frequently joining them onstage, the 165-voice Symphony Chorus is led by Grammy®-winner Charles Bruffy. The Symphony is well-managed and fiscally sound, sustaining our artistic excellence. In every aspect, the Kansas City Symphony is recognized as a leader among American orchestras.
Weekly broadcasts of Symphony performances on 91.9 Classical KC make it possible for everyone to enjoy great symphonic music. We aspire for our entire community to feel a sense of ownership and pride in the Kansas City Symphony as a cultural and civic asset for all.
