Kauffman Center Presents: Daniel O’Donnell

July 6, 2023 By news@kauffmancenter.org

The Donegal based singer, who is one of the most prolific and successful recording artists on the UK charts, is the only artist in the world to score a hit on the UK album charts every year since 1988, an unprecedented and unbroken 35-year span. In doing so, he has outshone everyone from Michael Jackson and Madonna to U2 and the Rolling Stones.

O’Donnell’s 17th special, “Daniel O’Donnell from Castlebar, Ireland,” released March 2023 and is airing on select Public Television stations nationwide. O’Donnell’s latest, I Wish You Well, released on Nov. 4, 2022, and entered the official UK Album Charts at No. 16.

Including this latest release, O’Donnell has now amassed 48 Top 75 albums, including 42 Top 40 albums, 30 Top 30 and 20 Top 10 albums, with 18 of the latter being in this century, a feat that has not been achieved by any other recording artist. He has now sold in excess of 15 million albums worldwide.

O’Donnell also burst into superstardom in the United States and Canada in 2002 with his first-ever PBS special, “The Daniel O’Donnell Show.” That began a special relationship between O’Donnell and PBS that has lasted more than 20 years.

Here is your chance to see two legendary performers. Join music icon Herb Alpert and his wife, Lani Hall, GRAMMY Award – winning vocalist and former lead singer of Brasil ’66 with Sérgio Mendes as they perform their classic recordings, “Más Que Nada,” “Fool On The Hill,” “Going Out Of My Head” and “Daytripper.” Alpert is celebrating his 60th year since recording his first hit song, “The Lonely Bull” in 1962. Kauffman Center Presents: Gregory Porter

July 6, 2023 By news@kauffmancenter.org

Acclaimed singer-songwriter Gregory Porter was raised in Bakersfield, California, and began singing in small jazz clubs in San Diego and later New York City, where his music career began to ascend with the release of his first two albums — Water (2010) and Be Good (2012). In 2013, he released his Blue Note debut Liquid Spirit which quickly grew into a global phenomenon, selling more than a million albums and earning Porter his first GRAMMY Award with NPR declaring him “America’s Next Great Jazz Singer.” His 2016 follow-up Take Me To The Alley won Porter his second GRAMMY for Best Vocal Jazz Album and firmly established him as his generation’s most soulful jazz singer-songwriter. In 2017, Porter released the heartfelt tribute album Nat King Cole & Me, and in 2020, returned to his original songwriting on the uplifting All Rise. Porter has hosted the podcast The Hang, as well as his own cooking show The PorterHouse.

Tom Hück — The Devil is in the Details — Book signing and Artist Talk

July 6, 2023 By Sherry Leedy Contemporary Art

Book Signing!

We are excited to announce Printmaker Tom Hück will be doing a book signing here at SLCA for his new book The Devil is in the Details. This inventive fine art book features his prints from 1995 – 2020 Written by Greg Kessler and published by Fine Print Small Press. Don’t miss the opportunity to meet Tom and grab a piece of Mid-west history.

Tom Hück is a satirical printmaker whose intricately carved, bawdy, politically biting woodcuts follow in the tradition of Albrecht Dürer, Jorge Posada, and Honore Daumier. This large woodcut of Gluttony took the artist four years to complete, Monkey Mountain Kronikle is the fourth in a series of triptychs that address, in the artist’s words, the downfall of society. In 8 jam-packed scenes, he intertwines comments on racism and the obsession with food in this country.

This groundbreaking piece will be on display here at SLCA for our “Summer Invitational” exhibition.
