Peregrine Honig’s “Player”: seven paintings, two years in residence — Artist Talk

October 20, 2023 By casey@thestudiosinc.org

“Player” directs the audience into seven theater sets by Peregrine Honig. Each 6x9 foot oil painting presents life size characters in pigment layered backgrounds waiting for their light. Staring out from the woods, swinging from the moon, hanging by their ankle, the viewer is invited into and out of the dark. The characters and audience are players being played.

Peregrine Honig began the series “Player” in 2021 after receiving The Studios Inc Studio Exchange, a competitive residency curating mid-career artists into accessible downtown production spaces. Studios Inc is programmed by curators and collectors and includes a five week public solo exhibition.

Preview the process on social media: #everylayerisaplayer

Understudies and Auditions will be on display in conjunction with Player November 17th through December 30th at Blue Gallery. This body of oil paintings on wooden panels, vintage floral linen and canvas paper present cameos and backdrops to Peregrine Honig’s largest paintings to date. Two years in production during her residence at Studios Inc, each piece is a cameo of fairytales, mythology and theater sets. Makers Meetup | Art & Mindful Series

Date: Thursday, November 11, 2023

Time: 3:30pm‑5:00pm

Cost: Free

Location: Leedy-Voulkos Art Center, 2012 Baltimore Ave. Kansas City, MO 64108

Event Description: The act of making art can take a toll on the creative mind. The Leedy Foundation is committed to educating artists in every aspect of being their very best. As part of this new series, we begin by offering a gathering space for artists to meet, chat, and learn basic methods of breathing, stretching and meditating to create a relaxed mind and body conducive to the act of making.

In the tradition of a quilting circle or a stitch and bitch group, bring a small project you can work on while chatting in our gallery — maybe knitting, small weaving, or sketching. It’s up to you. Nothing messy, please.

We look forward to seeing new and old friends in the spirit of connecting with our artist community.

Lead by artists Shari Hartbauer and Debbie Barrett-Jones
