‘Tis the season for family, good friends, cheer and helping make spirits bright.

Science City Invites You to Celebrate our annual Spookfest

Science City’s annual Halloween event – Spookfest – RETURNS! Enjoy a spooky night of science fun with the whole family. Featuring hands-on demonstrations, educator-led activities, a special Laser Spooktacular Music Show (separate ticket required) and a Spooktacular photo op created by Party City.

Show up dressed in your best costumes and be eligible for our costume contest. Costume categories are infants to 4‑year-olds, ages 5 to 9, ages 10+ and best family/group. The costume contest will be held at 7:15 pm.

Science City’s Spookfest is supported by MRI Global. Guests over the age of 5, including those in costumes, are required to wear face mask or face covering that covers both mouth and nose.

Full Schedule *

  • Spooky  Glowing Eye Art  5 — 7:30 pm Use fluorescent art supplies to create eerie eyes that glow under a black light.
  • Early Learning: Make a Monster  5 — 7:30 pm Take on the role of Dr. Frankenstein and create a temporary monster out of various parts and playdough using probability.
  • Spooky Space Sciences 5:30 & 6 pm Peek into our haunted crystal ball in the Science on a Sphere exhibit to learn some spooky astronomy! This short presentation will teach you about some of the creepy cosmic wonders hiding in our Universe.
  • Dark Shadow Maker 5 — 7:30 pm Make a simple LED circuit to cast a shadow on this Spooky Halloween night. Features 3D Printed parts, LED lights, and laser-cut parts to create your shadow maker.
  • Nature Works: Animal Chats at 5:30 and 6:30 pm Arachnophobia and Ophidiophobia: Why it’s ok to fear (and respect!) spiders and snakes
  • Stage Show: Spooky Sounds and Scary Lights 6:30 pm Dynamic explosions, electrifying sounds, and eye-catching colors highlight these science demonstrations. It’s so fun you might say it’s spooky!

Periodic Table Demos from 5 — 8 pm

Float a pumpkin in the air — The Bernoulli effect will be used to float a blow-up pumpkin

Create a ghost egg — Dry ice will be used to form bubbles of gas that can be held by kids.

Guest will be able to take a ghost for a walk — Heat rising will allow kids to hold a ghost’s hand and walk with it.

40-minute show showing at 5:00/5:45/6:30/7:15 pm
Enjoy some of your favorite family-friendly Halloween classics spiced up with spectacular 3D lasers and smoke effects at the Arvin Gottlieb Planetarium!
