INFERNA by QUIXOTIC x NOMADA

July 28, 2022 By julie_c@kccrossroads.org

As the summer sun drips down, two artistic forces unite to send you spiraling into a new reality. This August we pass the torch to QUIXOTIC who will light the way to a fiery BARRACA weekend. A dark, eerie atmosphere, fueled by fire performers and heated installations. Commanding the robust HIFI sound machine, the NOMADA DJ’s will take turns pushing forth the beat of the ancient drum, as they provide electronic refuge while you return to your inner flame. On this night, you must surrender to the blaze of what we call, INFERNA: a night on fire.

MISSION: After checking in at the front desk, make your way through the 14ft gates and prepare to be transported to a sonic paradise. Life in the NOW. All together under one roof, the dance will set us free. Experience a unique rotation of the finest, local music selectors and international talent. Everyone entering the space is an active contributor. Together we become the fabric of what is possible.

SATURDAY August 6

MR. BUNGALOW & BILATERTAL MOTION

Trapped in the lake of fire, with no choice but to chart a new course, sound savant BILATERAL MOTION descends with his harrowing dub arsenal of melodic tremors, in search of a new domain. mr. BUNGALOW, turns the HIFI key to his hypnotizing channel of sweat dripping, deep summer time ecstacy. Hold fast as he steers you through the blazing inferno to release hell’s captives.

SATURDAY AUG 6th, 10:00am | NOMADA RESTORE FEAT. CHRISTIAN NONI (WOODSIDE)

Self-massage tight muscles from your hips to your neck to increase flexibility and maximize recovery using myofascial massage balls. This masterclass is great for those who are extremely tight or want to maximize physical performance. Conclude class with Meditation Rest™, a practice adapted from the direct lineage of The Dalai Lama, and perfect for those whose minds are full enough with stress. Using intuitively selected Tibetan stones paired with an individualized mantra translated from Tibetan language, experience an intentional state of openness, acceptance and personal guidance to support you on your journey.

OUTLINED AGENDA

Focus: Body Restore and Meditation with a focus on Acceptance and Change

  • 10:00am — 10:05am: Class Introduction & CBD Tea Ceremony
  • 10:05am — 10:45am: Breath Exercise, Body Restore (Roll and Release)
  • 10:45am — 11:15am: Meditation Rest™ (Lecture, Crystal, Singing Bowl)

LOVESPAC3 — The Event Horizon

July 28, 2022 By julie_c@kccrossroads.org

A showcase revealing the deep experience of an artist’s journey through self.

About this event

“We are here.

A signal, a sound, a note is playing over the edges towards a new future.

It’s call is being made from within us. We must learn to listen to it. We must learn to sing it, we must join the band.”

NOMADA is excited to host our very first art show inside the walls of BARRACA. This July, we’re passing the torch to one of favorite artists in the city, LOVESPAC3.

After checking in at the front desk, make your way through the 14ft gates and prepare to be transported to a sonic paradise. Life in the NOW. LOVESPAC3 has prepared a unique, mind bending spoken word performance, that will take you on a journey into his world. This show is the alchemization of all the art (over 1000 : notes, drawings, thoughts, and thinking’s) made throughout his journey so far, which will be strung from the walls of the the tent. Stay late, as we open the doors for a late night party with a very special guest.

A message from LOVESPAC3:

It seems that the the collective momentum or path of our culture is no longer in alignment with the process of developing our higher nature. Evolution at a particular point in sentient life may no longer be a subconscious force, but a pro-conscious action. As we approach this precious precipice- to change the collective, it is now up to the individual to listen to the call of their dharma and undertake the right of passage necessary for all beings to reach the fulfillment of their higher self in truth.

I myself have been within the stages of what seems to be that kind of experience.

An event horizon is a point of no return. It is the initial cataclysmic ecstasy that leads matter through a mystery — into singularity.

This show is about the event that happened to me when love unscrewed all the crude caps to my cavities and every tragedy I could have ever felt or imagined was so supremely diminished.

It is about the path and process in which it started, to self actualize all parts of myself, especially the ones I had discarded. It is what I became involved in, the effort to evolve in loving awareness, and all the dare’ness I felt to do it. To pursue its role, was to bridge my soul through my ego, and this show is about ceremony it began. The journey from zeniths of mind, to being on the gurney at times, and all the signs that came to help me retain my faith in what I felt it fit to be. To see as me, a human being, an artist, a spirit, a conduit for creative exploration — expression- to offer a suggestion to the world and to ask permission to help create it. To no longer reside within the cave of my self, but to emerge from the chrysalis I have cocooned, to join you and to resume my efforts in love by the sheer fact of showing up — to do it.

I am here to bring everything I had discovered, and everything I have made — into the light.

Please join me in the release of my story at a point of no return.

Please join me in the closing of the ceremony.

Please join me in lovespac3″

Judith G. Levy — At The Heart of the Matter

July 18, 2022 By officemanager@thestudiosinc.org

At the Heart of the Matter is a solo exhibition of new work by artist Judith G. Levy. Throughout the exhibit, she wrestles with the heaviness of contemporary life, saturated by gender-based violence, racism, antisemitism, xenophobia, ecological disaster, and the global pandemic. In the midst of seemingly ceaseless emergency, this exhibition stakes its claims on empathy, care, and a shared humanity. Like all forms of representation in her practice, the individual works are both real and metaphorical, playful and sincere. Using still and moving images and found objects, she moves across mediums, gently nudging visual and material cultures toward more compassionate horizons.

Levy depicts everyday objects as agents that reveal a shared human vulnerability. The front door acts as a threshold into the sanctity of home, while doubling as protection from the potential perils of the world beyond. The exhibit also reflects on the fluidity of global and local identities in a series of portraits photographed in simple, natural light. All of the participants are connected to the artist through trusted, word-of-mouth networks. Often dressed to reference their countries of origin, they cradle vegetables and fruits that are common, though not native to the United States. The series is a complex expression of immigration provoking viewers to consider their assumptions behind feelings of familiarity and difference. Old travel postcards are overpainted to reconstruct their locations, transformed by drought and flooding in present times and our not too distant futures. Through worn away landscapes and monuments, this work turns ironically on the souvenir’s inherent nostalgia for a lost world that was always predicated on the devaluation of lives and ecologies.

Exhibition hours: Tuesday through Friday from 10 – 4pm and Saturday from 12 – 4pm
Location: 1708 Campbell Street, Kansas City, MO, 64108
