15th Annual Visions of the Flint Hills — First Friday

15th Annual Visions of the Flint Hills Art Benefit and Sale is a juried exhibition featuring artwork of the remarkable ecosystem that is the Flint Hills. The Flint Hills region contains the largest tallgrass prairie in North America. The beautiful scenes of the prairie inspire artists locally and nationally.
Join us for live music by Kaw Creek Band, drinks, and more than 160 pieces of original artwork on October 6th! From 5 – 8pm, explore the Flint Hills region of Kansas right here in Kansas City through the artwork of amazing artists.
All artworks in this exhibition depict or are derived from the Flint Hills region of Kansas. This exhibit will run from October 2nd — December 13th, 2023 at Buttonwood Art Space, 3013 Main Street, Kansas City, MO 64108.
The 2023 Juror, Kim Casebeer, will have made her Award Winner selections and will be announced that evening! Award categories include: Painting, Photography, 3D, and Other.
Art sales benefit Friends of Konza Prairie (FOKP), a friends group of Kansas State University. FOKP promotes educational research and experiences in the Konza Prairie Biological Station, an area of the Flint Hills just south of Manhattan, Kansas. The 8,600 acre Konza Prairie and the surrounding Flint Hills region contain the largest remaining parcels of the Tallgrass Prairie that once covered 140 million acres in North America.
Each purchase of beautiful artwork will benefit FOKP with 50% of net sales going to the organization and the remaining 50% going directly to artists.

First Friday — Art and Cultural Exchange

Join us for a special evening of art and cultural exchange at Cheryl Eve Acosta’s Sculptural Jewelry studio on October 6th from 5 – 8 pm. The event celebrates the fusion of creativity and international connections as we proudly welcome the International Relations Council (a globally informed, engaged, and active Kansas City community that welcomes diverse perspectives and connects through a sincere desire to contribute to our shared future) during this monthly First Friday’s tradition in the Kansas City Crossroads. This vibrant evening will also showcase the stunning abstract paintings by the celebrated painter Leslie Beck who uses sound and color to express the re-discovery of self. Come meet the artists and immerse yourself in a unique dialogue that amplifies the cross-cultural vibrancy of our community. Tap into your wild side at Casual Animal Brewing Company where local beer, plants, and art intersect! Our taproom brims with floor to ceiling greenhouse vibes and graphic design. Enjoy a pint or flight of our 11 rotating taps, including our Local Motive beer where $2 of every pint is donated to a different KC non-profit every two months.

PLUS: Tamaleon KC food truck will be onsite 5 – 9pm with their homemade tamales, birria quesadillas, and more!

The Overgrown Home (Paige Ledom) is setting up her pop-up shop with original art pieces and even one you can WIN! A great way to support local artists!

Shep’s Place (our NEW Local Motive) will be here with information and local artists ready to do a quick sketch of your furry friend! Recommended to bring your favorite picture with you and purchase a pint of the Local Motive Tropical Pale Ale. $2 of every pint is donated directly to Shep’s Place at the end of October. Help them provide the best care and love for all the senior dogs in their care (and support their expansion!).
