An Avoidant’s Guide to Love is a group exhibition that examines topics of masculinity and avoidant behavior featuring Kwanza Humphrey, Chico Sierra, Harold Smith, Wolfe Brack, Aaron Howell, Phil Dunn and Justin Canja.

A collaborative exhibition of works presented by seven male artists of various ages, races, and sexual orientations, An Avoidant’s Guide to Love examines the topics of masculinity, avoidant behavior (craving closeness while also fearing it), how society can push men towards this behavior, and how they use art to accept it, combat it, and flourish, love, and connect in spite of it.

Through their own lenses and visual languages the artists communicate the delicate balance between the needs for autonomy and connection through emotional bonds; how one can struggle with vulnerability and deep connection while simultaneously craving it.

The exhibition invites viewers to engage with the themes of love, healthy masculinity, community, vulnerability, self growth and awareness, culture, isolation, humor, activism, and the right to experience the full range of human emotion despite society’s unsubtle messaging to the contrary.

Opening Reception: Friday, May 1, 6 – 9 PM
