Affäre and Casual Animal Brewing Company are teaming up for another First Friday beer-brat collaboration pairing the best German-inspired street food with memorable craft brews for a win on the world stage.
On Friday, May 1, Affäre Chef Martin Heuser and the team at Casual Animal Brewing Company offer a limited fútbol food themed menu inside the Crossroads brewery’s taproom. The collaboration is designed as both a First Friday draw and a preview of how the two brands are preparing to work together when 650,000 global travelers from around the world are expected to arrive in Kansas City this summer to cheer on their favorite teams.
“Excitement is building around the World Cup, to be sure, but I feel that our locals should be even more excited by how small businesses are working together and partnering in creative ways to support each other,” said Lara Casual, owner of Casual Animal Brewing Company.
“These collaborations elevate the entire community experience and could last well beyond the World Cup if mutually successful. Small businesses in the Crossroads offer an unapologetically authentic, local experience for Kansas City residents and visitors alike. We hope everyone finds value and enjoyment in these partnerships and comes out to not only support small business ventures but also celebrate them,” she said.
The May 1 menu will feature Affäre’s house-made German favorites paired with Casual Animal Brewing Company’s beers:
- Authentic German brat on a bun
- Frikadellen (German meatballs)
- Wiener sausages served with potato salad
The limited menu begins at 5 p.m. and will be served until sold out.
“We’re excited to pair our German street food classics with great beers for Kansas City soccer fans and international fans this summer,” said Chef Martin Heuser, a soccer fan who often listens to matches while prepping for Affäre’s dinner service. “This collaboration gives both teams a chance to test the waters.”
“Our first round was a win,” said Katrin Heuser, co-owner and general manager of Affäre. “First Friday crowds offer a unique chance to fine-tune the experience and share what we do in a more relaxed setting. It’s also about what the Crossroads represents – independent businesses coming together to create an experience to remember.”
Alongside the food collaboration, Casual Animal Brewing Company will host additional local vendors during First Friday. Guests can visit Whaley Sweet, a line of sometimes irreverent-themed custom cookies. Literacy KC will also be part of the event and $2 off every pint of bronze lager sold in June is donated to free literacy, digital and English language learning programs for adults and their families.
The collaboration will continue on First Fridays throughout the summer with additional dates to be announced. Follow @affarekc and @casualanimalbrewing for updates.
