What is First Fridays?
Mark your calendar! On the First Friday of every month all year long, thousands of residents and visitors fill the sidewalks of the Crossroads in Kansas City, enjoying what has become the city’s liveliest and most popular event. Arts organizations, galleries, studios, and a wide variety of local businesses feature regional and national artists as well as live entertainment starting at 5 p.m.
Best explored on foot, the First Friday tradition continues to grow with up to 10,000 attendees. Most make it an evening, with dinner and drinks from a colorful array of restaurants and entertainment venues.

Where do I park in the Crossroads during First Friday?
There are many parking options in the Crossroads but during First Friday, those who arrive a bit earlier have a better chance at finding street parking. There are a number of lot options around the community or you could park at nearby Crown Center and either walk or take a short ride into the midst of all the fun! See our Visitor Info page for parking maps and more information.
What do I need to do to exhibit my artwork on First Friday?
If you would like to show and/or sell your artwork during First Friday, there is no vendor fee and you are more than welcome to set up a tent, table or booth during the event; however, wherever you set up, you should do your best to obtain permission from the property or parking lot owner. Please do not set up directly in front of a Crossroads Art Gallery since they are the very reason the event is such a success! Also, you should in no way obstruct the sidewalk or be a barrier to other entities and please clean up before you leave. You will find most property and store owners very positive about letting you have a presence during the event.
If you would like to approach a gallery or business entity to see if they could give you space for the evening or maybe even longer, you will find many open to your request. Just click the ‘Explore’ tab for a listing of all our members. If you are unfamiliar with First Friday, we suggest you attend one first to determine which location would best suit your needs and work.
What if I would like to perform with my band during First Friday?
If you would like to perform with your band, you should also be respectful of both your sound level and the hours you plan on performing (also remember, this is a family-friendly event, so if your lyrics are of a more adult nature, you should consider saving those songs for later in the evening). Again, most property and store owners are very positive about letting artists have a presence during the event, but please do not set up directly in front of a Crossroads Art Gallery and review your options prior to your actual performance … that way you will be able to most closely match your band to the area.
What if I would like to provide a culinary specialty during First Friday?
If you would like to provide food for the event, you are more than welcome to setup around the lot at 20th + Grand or throughout the neighborhood as long as you have your food vendor’s license, receive permission from whoever you set up in front of, do not set up directly in front of a Crossroads Art Gallery or block the public right of way, have a trash can available for your patrons and pick up before you head out.
