Art is a universal language,
communicating the many ways people view the world. My
artwork investigates the many strengths and weaknesses found
in human connections. I explore the connections I create
with other people, as well as those created internally.
Although my paintings, drawings, and sculptures are an
extension of me, they are not always of me. I find it very
important to have an open conversation with my models and
understand their feelings about the work they will be seen
in. Within these conversations I am reaffirmed that my own
struggles are not solely “my own.” I think of any piece
of art as a living thing, it grows through the ideas of the
Each medium I use has its own unique
strengths. Paint allows me to express through texture and
color. Charcoal creates a mysterious intensity with value.
Mixed medium sculptures abstract the subject and give
countless opportunities for complex juxtapositions. I have
always tried to be as versatile as possible with many
mediums. I feel that limiting my art to a particular medium
would limit the different types of communication I could
have through it.
Art bridges the gap between individual
ideas, allowing an open conversation about every aspect of
life. Nothing is more powerful. I want my art to be more
than a picture; it should be an experience. Words are
limited to language; an image holds more potential than any
letter, any speech. There is a dimension to the human
experience that is too often overlooked, but can be
resurfaced through art. Hopefully, my work can influence
others to acknowledge the connections that are so easily
ignored in today’s busy society.
