Wow! Its hard to believe that it has been 10 years since our first Human Form Show. When we decided to do the first annual show, we knew that we wanted to continue doing them, but one never knows how long the support for them would continue. But here we are 10 years later and it is still one of our most popular shows every year. Because it is our 10th year and we are still doing them in thanks to the public’s and artist support, we are adding a new feature to the show. We will be having the viewers of the show vote on their pick for Best of the Show for a $300 cash prize.
Why do we think and like art of the Human Form? Because art is a means of communicating human experiences, human bodies are naturally depicted. The figurative form can be used as the ideal medium to convey a spectrum of ideas with which the viewer can resonate. The human figure has always been a common subject of visual art, “it forces the viewer to engage the artwork and enables the artist to express an entire range of ideas from the subtle to the intense”. In the history of art the human figure bears, in different ways and through different periods in time, a huge significance, being the most direct means by which art can address the human condition.
The Hilliard Gallery in the crossroads art district in Kansas City, Mo., is seeking submissions for consideration for inclusion in the Gallery’s Tenth Annual Human Form show. This call is open to all mediums and creative styles of artwork. The show will open on the First Friday, April 7th and runs through May 27th, 2017. The show now in its ninth year has become increasingly popular each year, not only in the artwork submitted but in the attendance and reviews for the show. The Human Form show seeks to showcase the best artwork, selected not only from the Midwest area but through out the United States and from other parts of the world.
If you have previously had work in this show before you are encouraged to submit your work again.
The criteria for artwork are as follows:
The theme for the show is artwork inspired by the human form. This is not limited to portraiture, but may include any artistic interpretation of the human form in any media.
Artist may submit up to 6 images for consideration. For Sculptural or for Three-dimensional pieces, 2 images may be submitted for each work. Artist may submit 35 mm slides, photos, or digital files in the JPEG or Tiff format. Include the retail pricing for submitted pieces and titles, contact information and Biography. Please do not send originals. Images will be returned if a self-addressed stamped envelope is provided.
Submission Deadline is March 7th, 2017. Submission is free.
All accepted artwork must be delivered for the show by March 31st 2017. Because there aren’t any submission fees shipping or artwork will be the responsibility of the artist.
