Artist M Gray is a classically trained artist. Her inspiration is drawn primarily from literature, music and poetic allegory. The genius insight of Shakespeare, Chaucer, Paulo Coelho, and most notably Robert Graves are evident in much of her work. Various aspects of the divine, sacred language, conflicting interests of material self and eternal soul are illuminated as a stark contrast to the modern psyche. Gray’s cosmic subjects include nebulae, gaseous star-forming regions often the result of supermassive supernovae, their captivating remnants such as the Buttefly Nebula, and neighboring galaxies such as the Whirlpool Galaxy. The series began after a semester of general physics at a local college, which turned into a residency with local astrophysicists and the University of Missouri Department of Physics and Astronomy.
